Located between the rivers Möhne and Ruhr, the Arnsberg Forest Nature Reserve forms part of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. Beech and Spruce trees dominate the hillsides while sparse Alder and Oak forests accompany the streams.

The circular trail "Hellerberg" takes you to an area declared a natural forest reserve in 1976, with up to 190-year-old Beech trees. The natural forest is surrounded by a wilderness area. Here the commercial use has been discontinued, so that the forest can develop freely. Dead trees are left lying. You can hear the call of the Black Woodpecker and Raven in this very natural Beech forest.

The first part of the circular trail through the natural forest is not signposted as a hiking trail. Starting from the car park "Kreuzeiche", head in a northwest direction. At an intersection, turn right onto the hiking trail A 1, which takes you back to the car park "Kreuzeiche".

Public transport
From Soest, you can take the bus line R49 to Körbecke, and travel to Neuhaus from there by bus line 605. However, this bus does not take you to the area itself.Getting there
From the B 229 trunk road between Möhnesee and Breitenbruch, turn off in the direction of Neuhaus. After about 2.5 kilometres, you will see the car park "Kreuzeiche" on your left. This is the starting point of the circular route "Hellerberg".Address for satnavs: no localisation possible
