The Moosfelde Forest Nature Reserve is a large wooded area with an abundance of deciduous trees in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. This popular recreational area offers a variety of impressions – near-natural watercourses with alder-lined banks, swampy oxbow lakes, standing waters and impressive old trees.

The forest area of Moosfelde on the eastern edge of the lower Möhne Valley lies partly in the District of Soest and has been designated as a European Protected Area. Its special treasures are the numerous Oak and Beech trees that are more than a hundred years old. These are an ideal habitat for many tree cavity nesters, such as the Black Woodpecker. In the undergrowth there are numerous Holly bushes, whose evergreen, bizarrely serrated leaves are a rather untypical forest feature for the Sauerland region.

Several small V-shaped valleys, as well as the stream valleys of the Große Aupke and Kleine Aupke cut through the forested ridge. At these watercourses you can, with luck, see typical species representative of near-natural streams, such as the Dipper or the Kingfisher.
