Winter-Weierbach - The Winterbach and Weierbach valleys south of Burbach-Oberdresselndorf
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Biologischer Umweltschutz im Kreis Soest e.V Verified partner
In the damp and sometimes wet meadows of the valley, such rare flowering plants as the Globeflower and Great Burnet thrive. The Dusky Large Blue, a highly endangered butterfly species, is absolutely dependent on the Great Burnet. The rough pastures are ideal locations for orchids and the inconspicuous Moonwort, a small species of fern. The bushes in these locations provide perfect breeding places for Red-backed Shrikes and Whitethroats.
The different forest types of the area harbour large stands of Monkshood and early blooming flowers like the Hollowroot Birthwort and the Yellow Anemone. The breeding birds of the forests include Hazel Hen, Red Kite and various woodpecker species. Along the stream, you can with luck observe the Kingfisher fishing.

Turn-by-turn directions
The trail leads southward from the hiking car park. To the right of the trail there are mostly wet and damp meadows, some of which are in agricultural use while others are fallow. To the left of the trail is an old communal pasture, called the "Bitze". If you follow the route further, you will see an Alder coppice or "Hauberg" above the trail.
Where the trail crosses the Winterbach stream, you have a beautiful view from the bridge into the stream bed, which is strewn with basalt blocks covered with a thick layer of moss. Halfway up the slope you can either turn left into a cul-de-sac towards the "Dreiländereck" or follow the trail further uphill to hike onward along the basalt escarpment. A former basalt quarry provides a good opportunity for a break. From there you have a wonderful view towards Oberdresselndorf.
