The landscape around the Gelänge Stream is characterised by a mosaic of habitats subdivided into small plots of land. Within a very small area, you can experience the whole diversity of the Medebach Basin – the so-called "Tuscany of the Sauerland".

The nature trail takes you along the Gelänge Stream valley into the landscape west of Medebach past the heights of the Gelängeberg and Medeloner Höhe. In this small part of the FFH area, you can experience the full diversity of the Medebach Basin. In this cultivated landscape subdivided into small plots of land, rare bird species such as Great Grey Shrike and Red-backed Shrike have found a refuge. The nature enthusiast finds interesting information at the 16 stations of a theme trail.

High above the richly structured cultivated landscape Skylarks perform their characteristic flight song. Sometimes you may even see the shy Black Storks circling above the Gelänge Stream valley. The clear waters of the Gelänge offer the storks an ample supply of food and are also home to dragonflies like the Beautiful Demoiselle.

By the wayside and in the late-mown meadows or pastures grazed with only a few animals, you can find rare plant species, such as the Meadow Saxifrage, the Maiden Pink and the Musk Mallow.

You can round your hike off nicely by visiting the exhibition "Mitten drin" (Right in the middle) in the "Touristik" tourism centre of Medebach (limited opening times www.medebach-touristik.de).
